Every year new plants appear in our garden seemingly out of nowhere providing an element of surprise. Every year we get free pumpkins, squash and what not :) I have to say that all self-seeding, appearing from nowhere, or what I call "random plants" are always extremely strong, healthy and vibrant. True self starters! My biggest acquisition so far is the beautiful red rose like portulaca. One summer it appeared between the seams of our patio's concrete. I collected its seeds and am growing these beautiful flowers for the 3rd year in a row. They look gorgeous in containers and are very tough and heat tolerant - exactly what we need on our patio!
