A story about a great failure turning into an absolute miracle...
This spring I decided to do an experiment with my tomato seedlings and try to see if skipping the step of transplanting them into a larger container will save time and effort. As a result, all my seedlings died, therefore a note to myself to never do this again :) Anyway, when I was almost ready to go out and buy new tomato seedlings at the garden centre, I noticed that my tomato patch was all covered in seedlings sprouting from last year tomatoes. They were so many and they looked strong and healthy. Of course, they grew randomly and in a very disorganized fashion. I carefully transplanted and arranged them into a normal tomato patch order, got rid of the ones too many and there. What can be better than 100% free random plants? Maybe only curbside shopping :)
A huge tomato patch that has grown completely on its own! Now I am thinking if I should just do this every year, not planting them inside early spring, but rely on the self seed from last year crop? But will this give me at least most of my usual 5 varieties? We will see...
